A native of Japan, Sara Okamoto had her concerto debut with the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra in Michigan shortly after arriving in the United States at the age of 11. Since then, Ms. Okamoto has performed numerous solo and chamber music concerts in notable places such as the Banff Center for the Arts, Mozarteum, Hiroshima Gewandhall, Lincoln Center Kaplan Penthouse, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and Merkin Recital Hall. She has been featured as a soloist with the Far Rockaway Symphony Orchestra, performed at the Look and Listen Festival in New York, and has been a guest artist with the New York Philharmonic members in their chamber music series. The New York Sun raved: "...Okamoto showed a limpid technique...she appeared an unusually self-possessed musician." In the spring of 2006, Ms. Okamoto gave a her solo debut concert at Carnegie Hall presented by Artists International.
An avid performer of new music, Ms. Okamoto has performed compositions by up-and-coming composers, Adam Silverman, Wendy Griffith, Cyrill Schurch, James Mattheson, and Joe Rogers, among others.
Ms. Okamoto has studied with Boris Berman, Arie Vardi, Patricia Zander, Deborah Moriarty, and Alison Deane. She has also been coached by distinguished artists Claude Frank, Peter Frankl, Menahem Pressler, Tatiana Nikolaeva, Hans Graf, and David Shifrin. Some of her competition credits include Naomi Music Rising Artists Competition and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Ms. Okamoto holds degrees from Michigan State University, New England Conservatory, and Yale University. Currently, she is working on a doctorate at CUNY Graduate Center, while teaching as an adjunct at CUNY City College.
